FAQ

What type of wedding photography does Memories In Stills offer?

Memories In Stills specializes in candid wedding and reception photography, documenting genuine emotions, guest interactions, celebrations, and meaningful moments as they naturally unfold. Rather than directing traditional posed portraits, my approach focuses on preserving the atmosphere and experiences of your special day.

Can Memories In Stills be our only wedding photographer?

Yes! I offer independent candid wedding coverage for couples who prefer a relaxed, documentary-style approach. However, this service is not intended to provide comprehensive traditional wedding photography, including extensive posed portraits, formal group photographs, or a guaranteed list of specific shots. Couples seeking those services should consider hiring a traditional primary wedding photographer.

What is wedding companion photography?

Wedding companion photography provides additional candid coverage alongside an established primary wedding photographer. While your primary photographer handles their planned coverage, I focus on guest interactions, spontaneous reactions, behind-the-scenes moments, and other experiences that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Do we need permission from our primary wedding photographer?

Yes. When booking companion photography, the primary photographer must agree to the arrangement before the session is confirmed. This helps avoid conflicts with existing photography contracts and allows both photographers to work respectfully and effectively.

Can you photograph both our wedding ceremony and reception?

Yes, depending on your selected package, schedule, and venue permissions. Coverage can include candid moments during the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and other celebrations. We'll discuss your timeline beforehand to determine which portions of your wedding can be covered during the reserved session.

Will you take traditional posed wedding portraits or group photographs?

My primary focus is candid photography rather than traditional posed wedding portraits. While occasional informal group photographs may be possible, formal portraits, organized family groupings, and comprehensive wedding shot lists are not guaranteed as part of this service.

How much does wedding and reception photography cost?

Wedding and reception photography packages begin at $500 for two hours of coverage. Four-hour coverage is $900, and eight-hour coverage is $1,500. Packages include a private online gallery with downloadable JPEG photographs. Additional details are available on the Wedding & Reception Photography page.

Can you photograph weddings outside Rockford and Loves Park?

Yes! Wedding and reception coverage may be available throughout Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin, including Madison, Lake Geneva, Galena, and surrounding communities. Additional travel fees may apply depending on the location and event requirements.

How far in advance should we book wedding photography?

Booking early is recommended, particularly for weekends and popular wedding dates. Availability depends on your event schedule, location, and the coverage requested. Your reservation is confirmed once the required agreement and booking retainer have been completed.
